On June 27, , the fledgling NAMES Project displayed the first 40 panels of The Quilt from the Mayor’s balcony at San Francisco City Hall. Each panel measured 3’x6′, the size of a human Missing: Pdf. Our Call My Name panel making program ensures the stories of Black and Latinx lives lost to HIV/AIDS are honored with panels on the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Through the making and display of panels this powerful program is helping ensure the Quilt reflects the epidemic's impact within marginalized and communities of color. The Quilt returned to Washington, D.C. in October of , when 8, panels were displayed on the Ellipse in front of the White House. Celebrities, politicians, families, lovers and friends read aloud the names of the people represented by the Quilt panels. The reading of names is now a tradition followed at nearly every Quilt display. On June the National AIDS Memorial displayed 3, Quilt panels in Golden Gate Park, marking 35 years since the first panels were made. Presented by Gilead Sciences, this event honored the lives lost to AIDS whose names are stitched in the fabric of the Quilt.
