Japanese Startups: What Is Clean Planet?

In this series of articles, we are focusing on the Japanese startups that recently got in the spotlight, discussing their concepts, goals and activities. Today’s company is Clean Planet.

Clean Planet

Overview

Clean Planet  is a company that continues basic research and practical application research in order to achieve its goal of implementing the world’s first new hydrogen energy.

Vision & Mission

1. Safe, Stable, Affordable Energy for All

As the urbanization and industrialization of society and massive population growth occurs, the need for a miracle technology has emerged. Clean Planet aims to develop and implement a new energy source that is “Safe, Stable, and Affordable.”

Renewable energy from sources, including solar and wind, are growing rapidly but do not meet the challenge of drawing down greenhouse gas emissions to levels that ensure a sustainable future. Furthermore, competition over energy resources and the collapse of ecosystems due to climate change is at the heart of human rights violations and global conflict.

We aim to address the multiple daunting challenges of the environment, economy, and security by developing a revolutionary new energy source to replace fossil fuels. With our sustained research and development, along with our close relationships with academic and industrial partners, we aim for the rapid deployment of this novel technology.

2. Scientific Revolution – A New Kind of Energy

The 19th century brought us the steam engine. The 20th century brought us nuclear fission and renewable energy. We believe the 21st century can bring us a revolutionary, new energy source that is “Safe, Stable, and Affordable.”

Through our unique industry-academia collaboration with Tohoku University and other institutions, we seek to deepen our understanding of “new hydrogen energy,” also known as condensed matter or low-energy nuclear reaction (LENR). To quickly take humanity onto a decarbonized pathway that is sustainable, we also seek to develop practical applications to accelerate the global implementation of this new clean technology.

3. Partnerships for the Future

Solving global energy and environmental challenges can only be achieved by working together. As outlined by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we must address these issues for our civilization’s peaceful and prosperous development. To welcome this new hydrogen energy era, Clean Planet facilitates collaboration with a wide range of organizations and individuals. We seek to inspire a new generation of engineers to develop applications for “a safe and secure earth for the children of the future.”

Main Project

Currently, Clean Planet is working on practical applications of “New Hydrogen Energy using Matter Condensed Nuclear Reaction” through its industry – academia collaboration with Tohoku University. In the future, while advancing research activities at the forefront of this field, we will also collaborate with both business and engineering partners to further accelerate practical application and commercialization of this technology, such as sale of heat generation device parts, technological licensing of heat generation methods, etc.

The details are as follows:

・Support of Osaka University Arata Laboratory (Yoshiaki Arata, Professor Emeritus, Osaka University)

・Support of HEAD (Hydrogen Engineering Application & Development Ltd.)

(Tadahiko Mizuno, Former Assistant Professor, Hokkaido University)

・Establishment of joint research division with Tohoku University

(Condensed Matter Nuclear Reaction Division)

・Co-host of the 20th International Conference on Condensed Matter Nuclear Science

・(ICCF – 20) held in Sendai (attended by more than 150 people from 20 countries around the world)
