Introduction to Startups Valuation

This course is developed for startup founders who are in pre-seed or seed stage or other early stage. It consists of 15 short videos, of total length a little less than 30 minutes. The average video length is approximately 2 minutes.

The course guide a startup founder how to compose a fundraising pitch deck, one slide at a time. A number of concepts are introduced during each video. The founder may have to perform additional research to familiarize with those before attempting to put together the information necessary for the slide.

The course has a total duration of 52 weeks to assist those just beginning their startup journey and provide enough time to work on it with relative comfort. It is also a self-paced course. Meaning the founder chose how fast to proceed. You may watch all videos and also work on the slides you feel most comfortable concluding, before getting to work with those you might feel more challenging. Or you may take it one at a time.

The course is voiced and subtitled in English language. Summarized instructions for each video are also presented in English as well, in the form of a presentation.

The Art of the Pitchdeck

The business world is often equated to an ecosystem: the environment is comprised of interacting organizations and individuals much like the biological ecosystem (Moore, 1993). Entrepreneurship is no different, as it can be thought of as its own ecosystem, with new ventures being created, maturing, needing to adapt, or becoming extinct. Much like the biological ecosystem, in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, change occurs and gives rise to opportunity or presents challenges. It is important to consider the various levels of the ecosystem when evaluating the entrepreneurial environment. For example, the ecosystems can be analyzed at a macro level such as the terrestrial ecosystem in biology or the national economy in entrepreneurship. Additionally, ecosystems can be analyzed at more micro levels like the rain forest ecosystem in biology or the firm level in entrepreneurship.

This course introduces the traits and mindset of entrepreneurs, different tools to determine personal entrepreneurial traits, and a variety of innovative companies, small, social, and global, in addition to an examination of the differences between entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. Finally, it contains information on the development of business plans.

Innovative Business Mindset

We not only study entrepreneurs, we become entrepreneurs. Founders will learn the process of how to create an innovation based new venture. As a framework for this, it is used the business planning process and founders develop the essential parts of a business plan and investor pitch as a useful vehicle to achieve this goal. Throughout the course founders get to launch companies, work through issues of market analysis, technology viability assessment, competitive positioning, team-building, product life-cycle planning, marketing strategy, sales channel analysis, and a strong emphasis on the entrepreneur as a salesperson. The practical steps of organizational and legal issues associated with forming a brand new company are mapped, and we will address the strategic considerations for creating companies that can quickly define and dominate a new category or disruptive technology.

This is a hands-on course that teaches a rigorous framework as well as providing valuable experience to students so that they, upon completion, can be more successful in starting a new venture.
